Johannes Kammerstätter has created a wonderful monument to the Jewish communities in the Mostviertel and their displaced Jewish fellow citizens in three impressively researched and visually beautifully designed volumes. He has reconstructed the history of the religious communities, their rabbis and cantors, as far as the sources allow. He cites in detail from the writings of Rabbi Adolf Löwy. His daughter Fanny Cleve was a celebrated opera singer, who was married to Peter Suhrkamp in the twenties. Kammerstätter has not hidden the history of anti-Semitism, National Socialism and resistance in religion.

Furthermore, many family histories have described fascinating life stories in emigration. Richard Barkeley, born Richard Baumgarten in Waidhofen on the Ybbs, wrote as a historian in England, for example, books on the German peace movement and Crown Prince Rudolf. With the story of the Zionist publicist, Secretary General, the Zionist national association and employees of the IKG Vienna, Sigmund Kornfein and his daughter Edith, a colleague of Viktor Frankl, the volume also contains an important piece of Zionist history. The titles of the individual volumes (home despite all this, home to take away and portable homeland) also testify to the special sensitivity of this other, extremely readable and worthy local history.
